Bellwether Fiber Company

Bellwether Fiber Company was founded by me (Jody), a Navy veteran and Army spouse, during a season of transition into stay-at-home motherhood. After leaving active duty, the shift brought unexpected challenges, and fiber arts became both a creative outlet and a grounding practice. Knitting offered focus, purpose, and a renewed sense of productivity—along with the joy of creating handmade pieces for a growing family.

 

What began with knitting soon evolved into a deeper commitment to fiber artistry and traditional, sustainable processes. Today, Bellwether Fiber Company works hands-on with wool from start to finish, washing, carding, combing, and dyeing fibers using thoughtful, small-batch methods that honor the material and the environment. Spinning yarn is an ongoing pursuit, reflecting a dedication to continuous learning and craftsmanship.

 

While the company was initially created to support my family, it has grown into something larger: a connection to a broader community that values natural fibers, sustainability, and meaningful handmade goods. Wool and fiber products serve a universal purpose—providing warmth, comfort, and care—whether through a handmade gift for a new mother, a practical layer against the cold, or a piece crafted to be cherished for years.

 

Bellwether Fiber Company believes that working with natural materials can bring people together, strengthen communities, and foster appreciation for slow, intentional production—one thoughtfully made product at a time.
